Luminescent Longreach is a spectacular nighttime light and sound experience designed to delight, entertain, inform, and move. Stand amongst iconic aircraft as world class projection mapping and 360 degree immersive sound brings the 100 year story of Qantas to life, with the mighty Boeing 747 serving as the primary canvas. Told through 3D animation, traditional animation, and illustration, Luminescent Longreach weaves an unforgettable narrative through time; a story of the daring spirit of early aviation, of iconic planes, wars, distant places, and outback innovation.

It took the Buchan team approximately 11,000 hours to create the Luminescent Longreach show.
The creative aspects included research, storyboarding, screenplay and script writing, virtual reality mockups, 3D modelling and animation, traditional animation, illustration, music composition and sound design. The team visited Longreach several times in the process to meet with the QFM team, learn more about the museum and Longreach, and to perform test projections on the 747. We also took the story of place very seriously, and spent time consulting with Iningai custodians in order to bring a truly special Welcome to Country to life. The team also presented concepts, process, and progress to the QFM board in Brisbane. From a technical standpoint a custom digital automation network had to be designed, coded, and built, equipment specifications meticulously defined, and audiovisual and lighting specialists consulted.
