ORIGINS
Of the 5 root forms of tai chi, Chen style is the original and considered most potent, dating back over 500 years to the creator of tai chi General Chen Wangting.
Master Chen Yingjun (above) has been training from childhood and - with incredible discipline and intensity - is firmly following in his father’s footsteps to tai chi mastery and greatness.
Grand Master Chen Xiaowang is considered a national living treasure by the Chinese government and is the 19th generation standard forbearer of Chen style tai chi.
LOGO
The first and foremost thing I tried to avoid was a circular and overly traditional style that usually comes with the martial arts club territory. I arrived on something rectilinear, modern, and evocative of Chinese character. The original plan was to spell out ‘Australia’ as part of the wordmark, but the additional A that forms in as a combination of the A and H ended up serving that purpose.
PHOTOGRAPHY + VIDEOGRAPHY
Along with logo development I created a series of assets for website and social media use, including photography, videography, and teaser videos.

LIAO JIA
Liao Jia (or 'old frame'), is the primary form in Chen Style. A fluid series of movements and postures, one form sequence takes approximately 13-15 minutes to complete. Liao Jia is characterised by alternating slow and fast movements, and bursts of power. Most tai chi videos available are often made for instructional purposes, this was created to show some of the more graceful and dramatic elements of the form.
